  Rok cleared his throat. “I will train them as soldiers and pilots. They can help us take back Zandia.”

  But Lily frowned. “And what then? They will be slaves of Zandia?”

  Zander stiffened. “Zandians do not keep slaves.”

  Both Rok and Lily’s eyes traveled to Lamira’s collar, but they kept their mouths shut. She was obviously far more than a slave to Zander, whatever their situation may be.

  “Any human who fights for Zandia will be considered a full and free citizen,” Zander declared, though it appeared to cost him.

  “We can remain in the death pod, so long as you provide us with supplies. Training can begin immediately.” He cleared his throat, hating—despising—what he had to offer next. “Lily, if you want to go with your family—”

  Rok escorted Lily into one of the guards’ sleeping chambers he’d selected as their own. They’d spent the most of the planet rotation convincing the humans that Zandia was the promised land, and all they needed to do to earn their freedom was to help win it for Zander. Though doubt lingered in the air, it wasn’t as if they had any other options or choices. Lily just hoped, after they received fair treatment, they would come to believe.

  “You have to the count of five to get those clothes off,” Rok growled, his eyes glowing deep-violet with desire.

  Her gaze flicked to his stiffened horns then dropped lower to the considerable bulge in his flight pants. He’d been sending her hungry looks all planet rotation, along with keeping her pinned to his side at all times as if he feared she might be taken from him again.

  Prince Zander had left with her mother and sister, who had promised to send her clothing and supplies.

  “No,” he cut her off. “Do not give me any explanation—I have no patience for your excuses. Allowing Lamira to risk her life as she did was unacceptable.”
